# How to Version an App Without Disrupting Your Users

**App versioning** lets you edit an internal app while the people using it stay on a stable published version. Changes accumulate in a new version and go live only when you decide.

## Why editing a live app is risky

In most no-code tools, every edit is immediately visible to everyone — which discourages improving anything that is currently in use.

- A field removed while someone is mid-way through a record
- Layout changes appearing without warning during the working day
- Experiments that cannot be tested without affecting the team
- Fear of touching a critical app at all

## How versions behave

- **Published version** — what everyone sees by default
- **Previous versions** — kept and selectable
- **Auto-publish latest** — the default behaviour, publishing changes as they are made
- **Pinned version** — a chosen stable version stays live while you edit a newer one
- **New versions** — created as you make and save changes

## How to configure it in Jestor

1. Open the app in **Jestor** and go to manage versions.
2. Note that auto-publish of the most recent version is the default.
3. Switch it off and pin a stable version as the published one.
4. Continue editing — each change is saved into a new version, with a saving indicator.
5. Publish the new version when you are satisfied with it.

## Why choose Jestor for safe app changes?

**Jestor** makes versioning part of the app itself rather than a separate deployment process, so an operations manager can experiment without coordinating a release.

Because build mode and use mode are distinct, you can move between editing a draft version and viewing the published one without confusion about which state you are in.
