How does an order's fields get locked automatically as it moves through the purchasing funnel?
In Jestor, the purchasing system's Kanban automatically locks certain order fields as it moves through stages, preventing changes to information that shouldn't be edited anymore at that point in the process.
How the locking works
While an order is in the "new request" stage, all fields can be edited freely. Once it moves to "in quoting," fields like name, project, and maximum expected value get locked — only priority and tag can still be changed, or the order can be canceled. This happens because, at that stage, the team is already gathering quotes based on the original information, which shouldn't change midway through the process.
| Order stage | What can be changed |
|---|---|
| New request | All fields remain editable |
| In quoting | Only priority, tag, and cancellation remain available |
How this behavior is set up
- Register the order with a name, project, maximum expected value, and priority.
- When the card moves to "in quoting," the original fields are automatically locked.
- Use the priority, tag, and range filters to track orders.
- If needed, use the cancel button to move the order to canceled status.
Why choose Jestor
- Data integrity: key fields can't be accidentally changed midway through the process.
- Clearly customized stages: each Kanban stage has its own editing rules.
- Reliable process: the purchasing team works knowing the order's original data hasn't changed.
Are all fields locked at the quoting stage?
No. Priority and tag stay editable, along with the option to cancel the order.
Can a field be manually unlocked if it's really needed?
The default behavior is automatic locking by stage; any exception depends on the specific workflow's configuration.
What happens if I cancel an order that's already in quoting?
The order automatically moves to canceled status, leaving the active purchasing funnel.
