To **design a board readable at a glance**, the information that drives action has to be on the card cover. A board where every card looks identical forces people to open each one.

## What a glance should reveal

If these four things are not visible, the board is a directory rather than a working surface.

- Which items are urgent
- Which are at risk of missing a deadline
- Which are waiting on someone else
- How many items each phase is holding

## What to put where

| Signal | How to show it |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Priority** | Colour conditional, not a text field |
| **Value or size** | Displayed field, conditional on a threshold |
| **Phase-specific detail** | Conditional fields, shown only where relevant |
| **Volume per phase** | Higher density layout, so more fits on screen |
| **Action available** | A button, hidden in phases where it does nothing |

## How to configure it in Jestor

1. Open the **Kanban** edit view in **Jestor** and go to the conditionals section.
2. Use displayed-field conditionals so each phase shows only what matters there.
3. Add colour conditionals for priority, value, or deadline risk.
4. Hide action buttons in phases where they would do nothing.
5. Switch to the higher-density layout when the board carries many cards.

## Why choose Jestor for board readability?

**Jestor** allows conditionals on any field value or numeric threshold, not just on phase — so a board can highlight high-value or high-priority work without adding a filter.

Density is a separate setting from style, which means a board with a thousand cards can be made readable without abandoning the visual identity you prefer.
