How Can I Manage Irrigation Schedules and Water Use?
You manage irrigation by recording each sector with its crop and system, scheduling irrigation tasks with duration and expected volume, and logging what was actually applied, so planned and actual water use can be compared. On Jestor, this runs through a sectors table, recurring Tasks, and a usage log.
Water is a critical and sometimes limited resource. Without records, farms cannot tell whether crops receive enough, whether water is being wasted, or whether the use is within the limits of a permit.
What unmanaged irrigation costs
- Crops stressed by missed or insufficient irrigation
- Water and energy wasted by over-irrigation
- No evidence of water use when a permit is reviewed
- Energy costs that cannot be linked to specific sectors
- Failures in equipment noticed only after damage appears
How irrigation management works
- Each sector is a record with crop, area, and system
- Irrigation events are scheduled with duration and expected volume
- Operators log what was applied
- A dashboard compares planned and actual use by sector
Why Jestor fits this use case
- Irrigation becomes a documented routine
- Waste and shortages are easier to see
- Records support water permit reporting
- This scales from a small irrigated area to large pivot or drip systems
