To **build a Kanban from connected fields**, you choose a field type other than single-select as the column driver. Connected records, radio fields, and user fields can all define the phases of a board.

## Why single-select is not always the right column

The classic board uses a status field. Plenty of useful boards are not organized by status at all.

- A board by responsible person, to see workload distribution
- A board by client or company, using a connected record
- A board by category, where a radio field already exists
- Processes where duplicating status into a new field would mean maintaining two

## Which field types can drive a board

- **Single select** — the classic status-based board
- **Radio** — useful where a radio field already structures the process
- **User** — must be a single-user field, since a card belongs to one column at a time
- **Connected** — you also choose which columns of the connected record appear

## How to configure it in Jestor

1. Open the **Kanban** edit view in **Jestor**.
2. Choose the field that defines the columns — the list now includes connected, radio, and user fields.
3. For a connected field, select which columns of the related record should appear.
4. For a user field, confirm it allows a single user rather than several.
5. Configure displayed fields, colours, and filters as you would on any board.

## Why choose Jestor for flexible boards?

Because **Jestor** sits on relational tables, a connected record can drive a board without duplicating data into a status field. New connected records can be created dynamically, and the board adapts.

The same board settings — displayed fields, colour conditionals, filters, ordering — apply regardless of which field type defines the columns.
