How do you track contract versions (amendments, replacements) while keeping the document history?

In Jestor, each contract can have multiple document versions linked to it — such as the original contract, amendments, and replacements — and the entire history stays preserved in the documents tab, without losing any earlier version.

How version tracking works

When a contract is registered, the first file enters as document version 1.0, with a "current" status and "original contract" type. When an amendment needs to be added, it's registered as a new version (for example, 2.0), linked to the same contract. When that new document is activated, the original contract's status changes to "replaced," keeping the complete history of everything that's ever been generated.

Document type Typical status
Original contract Current (version 1.0)
Amendment Current (new version, e.g., 2.0)
Earlier replaced version Replaced (kept in the history)

How to register a new contract version

  1. Go to the documents tab and click "new document."
  2. Select which contract the new file belongs to.
  3. Choose the document type (amendment, replacement, etc.) and description.
  4. Save — the previous document can then be marked as "replaced" on the corresponding contract.

Why choose Jestor

  • Nothing gets lost: even replaced documents remain available in the history.
  • OCR technology: a contract's key data is read and auto-filled when the file is uploaded.
  • Consolidated status view: a chart shows the percentage of current, replaced, and archived documents.

Can a contract have more than one amendment?

Yes, each new amendment can be registered as a new version, keeping the link to the original contract.

Do replaced documents stay accessible afterward?

Yes, they remain in the documents tab with a "replaced" status, preserving the complete history.

Does OCR also read amendments, or only the original contract?

OCR works for any uploaded file, filling in the corresponding fields for amendments and new versions too.
