Deciding **what belongs on a card sidebar** means choosing between three competing demands: reference information, connected records, and the tools that act on the record.

## Why sidebars fill up

Every addition is individually justifiable, and collectively they make the panel unusable.

- Every field shown because someone once needed one
- Connected tables added and never reviewed
- Tools competing with data for the same space
- A panel that has to be scrolled to be read

## What can occupy the panel

| Element | Purpose | Keep when |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| **Record data** | Reference fields for this process | The field informs a decision made here |
| **Connected records** | Related items, filtered and ordered | The relationship is acted on from this card |
| **Chat** | Discussion about this record | The record is worked on collaboratively |
| **Docs** | Attached written context | Notes or minutes belong to the record |
| **Updates** | Change history in chat format | The audit trail is needed in view |

## How to configure it in Jestor

1. Open the form editor in **Jestor** and edit the record data panel.
2. Remove fields that do not inform a decision made on this card, and reorder what remains.
3. Configure connected panels: choose fields, apply filters, set read-only where appropriate.
4. Enable only the tools this process uses — chat, docs, tasks, updates.
5. Remember the updates tab is off by default, and can be limited to builders.

## Why choose Jestor for card design?

**Jestor** makes each of these configurable per form, which means the same record can present differently in different processes — a finance view and an operations view of the same data.

Less is usually better here. A sidebar exists to be read at a glance, and every element added reduces the chance that anything on it is noticed.
